Ponce Inlet - New Smyrna Beach - Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Report July 25, 2001

We’re in the dog days of summer now. Those that have been on my boat have enjoyed tremendous days of catching trophy redfish, snook, and tarpon in New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon. Summer vacations may be ending before long, but the fishing won’t cool off anytime soon. We are rolling into some of the top fishing months of the year!

Sorry, my calendar is full for July. My August calendar has openings, but there are less than 10 available. The same goes for September. Don’t wait till the day before or the week of to try find a charter during the peak busy season…try and book now or it’s likely you’ll find no availability.

It’s been all about giant bull redfish lately that are grouping up into big schools for spawning time. These trophy redfish near Mosquito Lagoon are the highlight of the end of summer and fall. The next few months are the best of the year to catch a redfish over 20 pounds when visiting the New Smyrna Beach area. We’re catching at least a few each day, with other days closer to 10 per trip. It’s only going to get better as the weeks go on. On days we change it up, we’re finding smaller redfish in creeks and on small flats In the backwaters of Mosquito Lagoon. Usually we can find a few when combining it with speckled trout fishing.

Fishing for speckled trout in Mosquito Lagoon has been picking up lately. Catching fair numbers of 18-22 inch trout daily, with usually a few over 24 inches (4-5 pounds). Some days we find a big one close to 30 inches, but seem to be tough to find this year. Most days we fish for trout in the Mosquito Lagoon backwaters yield 10-15 trout per day. Pretty much strictly fishing live bait for trout next few months.

Still been catching quality snook fishing from Daytona Beach to Edgewater. Been a bit inconsistent though as these fish move around quite a bit. Some days we find several, others we won't find but one. Big snook are grouped up to spawn right now and when that’s over they will move back into the backwaters again. Days in late August through September can be good for snook with some in the 30-40” range. Snook season is closed till September, so catch and release for the next few weeks.

Seeing lot of tarpon moving in through Ponce Inlet into the backwaters near New Smyrna Beach. Lots of fish in the 40-100 pound range showing up in schools. Have caught some nice ones up to 75 pounds on live bait and lures. Pretty tough fishery and you gotta be committed to giving it lot of time to get a bite or two. i like to give them a try when you find them and move on to other things to fish for when it’s looking like they won’t chew.

My August calendar has openings, but there are less than 10 available. The same goes for September. Little chance of last minute during these peaks busy months, so don’t wait! Ponce Inlet - Mosquito Lagoon - New Smyrna Beach Fishing Report June 2021

Summer has arrived and it seems like all is back to normal. Thousands of visitors visiting Central Florida has the charter business slammed busy for the next few months. My calendar is nearly full for the remainder of the summer, but here’s what I got left…nothing left open for June, 5 days left open for July and 13 days left open in August. Get an opening while you can!

Those on the calendar over the next few months are in store for some awesome fishing. Been a great variety over the past month fishing from Daytona Beach down into Mosquito Lagoon. We’ve caught lots of big trophy redfish, trout and snook and that’s not really gonna change anytime soon. The next 6 months are my favorite of the year with some truly epic fishing and monster catches!

Things are heating up literally for giant bull redfish making their way to their spawning grounds at Ponce Inlet. Smaller schools of 20-40 pound redfish have been forming with some bigger groups moving around. We’ll catch a few giant redfish each day usually till we get into July. Then it just keeps getting better to the point we catch dozens a day by September. The next five months are best of the year to catch a redfish over 20 pounds when visiting the New Smyrna Beach area. In the backwaters of Mosquito Lagoon we’re sight casting some smaller redfish tailing on shorelines and small flats. Mosquito Lagoon doesn’t hold the numbers of redfish it used to, but we can still find some here and there.

Been catching lots of speckled trout the past month in Mosquito Lagoon. Catching fair numbers of 18-22 inch trout daily, with usually a few over 24 inches (4-5 pounds). Sadly it’s a down year for the giant gator trout which the Lagoon is famous for. We’ve caught several in the 27-30” range during the past few weeks, but previous years that would happen daily instead of over the span of a month. Most days we fish for trout in the Mosquito Lagoon backwaters yield 10+ trout per day which is great catching for everyone. Pretty much strictly fishing live bait for trout next few months.

Still been getting on the snook, fishing everyone from Daytona Beach to Titusville. I mean we are literally seeing historic record numbers in Central Florida, with lots of big giant snook in the 30-38 inch range. Our fishery has been changing quite a bit over the past decade and snook are not only thriving but taking over! It’s quality over quantity during the summer; we won’t catch dozens every day, but we’ll get a few and they are usually the biggest ones. It’s a live bait game this time of year. Catching will remain pretty good all summer. Snook season is closed till September, so catch and release rest of the summer.

Seeing lot of resident tarpon all over the channels and creeks. Have caught a few up to 25 pounds but have spent very little time trying since there’s better options right now. Pretty tough fishery and you gotta be committed to giving it lot of time to get a bite or two. I prefer to target them when i find them in really good moods later in the summer and early fall.

Central Florida seems to be the place to be this summer as evidence by the numbers of travelers visiting the areas. Nothing left open in June. 5 days open in July and 13 days open in August. Little chance of last minute scheduling so don’t wait!!! Text me or call me at 386-212-4931 or even send me an email to secure a date. Ponce Inlet - New Smyrna Beach - Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Report May 2021

Summer is almost here. Been a great spring. I’m super busy with every week filled. I only have a couple days left open in May...June through August is filling quick. Summer is gonna be slammed! So don’t wait last minute to schedule or it’s not gonna happen.

Been all about the snook fishing around the northern half of Mosquito Lagoon the last 2 months. Spending more time targeting big redfish near Ponce Inlet as we start May. Mosquito Lagoon is gonna give up the best big trout fishing of the year during the next two months. Top chance of the year for big gator trout approaching 10 pounds of better. Should be catching some great snook when fishing around New Smyrna Beach and Port Orange the next couple months as well some giants over 35 inches and lot of others 20-30 inches. The next 6 months are my favorite of the year with some truly epic fishing and monster catches!

It’s been the best snook fishing around Central Florida in history. The numbers are amazing and were starting to catch some great fish approaching 40 inches. The past couple months we pretty much averaged 10-15 snook a day on my charters. Live bait and lures both producing well on area shorelines and docks. Big schools have broken up and snook are now widely scattered all around Ponce Inlet, New Smyrna Beach, Edgewater, and Oak Hill. Catching will remain pretty good all summer. Snook season closes end of May, so catch and release all rest of the summer.

Redfish are pretty scattered in the Mosquito Lagoon area. We are picking some up here and there live bait fishing. Have spent some days sight casting redfish on shorelines with lures. Big bull redfish over 20 pounds are starting to school up as the summer spawning season arrives. We’ll catch a few each day over next couple months and that’ll increase to dozens a day by the end of summer. The next 6 month are best of the year to catch a redfish over 20 pounds when visiting the New Smyrna Beach area.

It’s also the peak time of year to target trophy size specked trout. May and June annually give up the biggest trout of the year in the Mosquito Lagoon area with giants approaching 10 pounds of better. We’ll catch bunches of 4-5 pound speckled trout and too many to count smaller trout under 20 inches. Most days we fish for trout yield 15-20 per day which is great catching for everyone. Pretty much strictly fishing live bait for trout next few months.

Seeing lots of tarpon starting to show up in a few areas in the channels, creeks and inlet. Looks this year could be promising and hopefully as good as last year with lots of tarpon and lots of bites. Tarpon will get a lot more active in May and June and be ready to bite a little better. Pretty tough fishery though and you gotta be committed to giving it lot of time for maybe a bite or two.

Central Florida gonna be pretty crowded and busy the year. Only have 4 days left open for May and June already half way full. July and August are two busiest months of year. Don’t wait to get on my calendar! Limited availability so don’t schedule last minute. Text me or call me at 386-212-4931 or even send me an email to secure a date.
